     Ang...

Well, I've had Ang since January 1991, and just this year she developed a tumor on her side just a little below her armpit.  I first took her into see my vet when I thought I noticed some assemetry.  I was to give her "cage rest" as best as possible, which I did with mineral oil on her toes to keep her from climbing the glass (the affects of which wore off after she shed).  I brought her back in after two weeks with no change to the swelling and my vet did an x-ray on her.  It's now been quite a few months.  The tumor has been growing very slowly.  I've hesitated doing anything (such as taking her back in and have it removed) because she's getting around well, eating and functioning just fine as is.  My vet agrees that at this point it could be detrimental to remove it now considering it doesn't seem to bother her in the least.  Below are digital pics of the x-rays taken.

Ang has gained weight since the first vet visit and seems to be doing well.  The tumor does not appear to be involving bone, which is good for her.

1/7/00- I was feeding the tokays some superworms. Allie got the worm first and Ang grabbed onto her foot, then bit her nose trying to get the worm. After that she went after her own worm and left Allie alone. I'd say she's doing fine.
If anything changes with her condition, I'dd add updates here (along with occasional pictures of changes in the tumor).

5/1/00- Last night I was handfeeding geckos and noticed that Ang kept scratching at her "tumor" and that it had some scabbed over areas on it. It was looking more and more like an abcess than a tumor and I decided I'd take a sterile needle (had quite a few left over from when I was doing insulin shots on Cozumel, one of my female iguanas who had passed away). I cleaned the area with alcohol and nicked open the lower scab and removed all the contents of what appeared to be a very solidly organized abcess. I cleaned out the hole that was left with a Nolvasan solution and then filled it with Neosporin (I would have used my Bactoderm, but I accidentally left it in the lizard room and I'm concerned it might be inaffectual from being exposed to higher temperatures than recommended on the label. Ang is doing well and I'll post more pictures as it heals. Crosswinds lost the page where I had the "before and after" pictures, so I'll be readding them soon to this site..
